Getting started
6What is UUDO?
UUDO is the campus community app for your university. It exists because the things that actually make you belong somewhere — the traditions, the people, the Thursday that turns into a story you tell for four years — are hard to find when you arrive, and easy to miss even once you're not new.
Three parts do the work:
- Explorer finds other students at your university, by major, minor, class year and the interests you share.
- Hub is your feed: today's agenda, events, and news from your university.
- Chat is where it goes once you've found the people who fit.
It's deliberately restrained. Your feed reaches you and then stops. There's no infinite scroll, nothing from outside your university, and nothing engineered to keep you on your phone instead of at the thing it just told you about.
UUDO opens one campus at a time, so a community already exists before the first student arrives. It's currently in beta, and free for students.
Who can join UUDO?
Students with a valid email address from a university that's already active on UUDO. Your university email is what connects you to your campus community: it's how we know which university you belong to.
Personal email addresses like Gmail, Outlook or Yahoo can't be used to sign up.
How do I sign up?
- Open UUDO and tap Sign up.
- Enter your university email address. We check it against the universities already live on UUDO.
- Create your name and password.
- Verify your email. We send you a link, and your account isn't active until you tap it.
- Finish your profile: academics, interests, photo and bio, and confirming your age.
Why do I have to use my university email?
Two reasons. It confirms you're actually a student, and it places you in the right campus community. UUDO shows you people and events from your university, and your email domain is how that's decided.
It also means nobody outside your university can quietly create an account and browse your campus.
My university isn't on UUDO yet. What can I do?
Let us know you're waiting. When your email domain isn't recognized, UUDO shows you a short form. Leave your email there and we'll tell you the moment your campus goes live.
UUDO opens campus by campus rather than all at once, so that a community already exists before the first student arrives. Demand from students is a real signal in that order.
My university is on UUDO, but my email was rejected
Some universities give students an address on a subdomain, for example students.university.edu rather than university.edu. If your address looks like that and UUDO says your campus isn't supported, that's the likely cause.
Using UUDO
7How do I find events?
Events from your university are on the Hub, the screen you land on when you open the app. Today's agenda sits at the top with what's happening right now, and events run below it.
Tap any event to see the full details: what it is, when and where, and who's going.
What surfaces first is shaped by the interests you picked during setup, so if your feed doesn't feel relevant, adding a few more interests is the fastest fix.
How do I sign up for an event?
Open the event and confirm you're going. Your spot is saved and the event shows you as attending.
You'll also see how many people are going, and how many of them are your bonds, which is usually the more useful number.
Where do I see news from my university?
News sits on the Hub, below today's agenda and your events. Tap a story to read it in full.
It's news from your university specifically, not a general feed. Like everything else on UUDO, it reaches you and then stops.
How do I find people?
Explorer is where you find other students at your university. It surfaces people by major, by class year, and by the interests you have in common.
You'll only ever see students from your own university here.
What is a bond?
A bond is a mutual connection between two students. You send a bond request, and it becomes a bond once the other person accepts. Either of you can remove it later.
Bonds are what make the rest of the app useful: they're who you message, and they're how UUDO tells you that four people you actually know are going to Thursday's event.
How do I message someone?
Messaging is for your bonds. Once a bond request is accepted, you can start a conversation from their profile or from your chat inbox.
This is deliberate. It means nobody on campus can message you out of nowhere.
How do I manage notifications?
Everything is under Settings → Notifications. You can control what you're notified about: bond requests, messages, and events.
If you'd rather not be notified at all, turning UUDO's notifications off in your phone's own settings works too.
Profile & onboarding
6What happens after I verify my email?
You go straight into setting up your profile. It's a few short steps and takes a couple of minutes. You can't browse the app until it's finished, because an empty profile is invisible to everyone else too.
What do I need to finish setting up my profile?
- Your major
- Your class year
- At least two interests
- Your photo and bio, and confirming your age
Why do I have to pick at least two interests?
Interests are what UUDO uses to show you events and people worth your time. With fewer than two there isn't enough to work with, and your feed would just be everything happening on campus in date order.
You can change them any time from Profile → Edit profile.
Can I change my major or interests later?
Yes. Your major, minors, certificates, interests, bio and photo can all be edited from Profile → Edit profile. Change them and your recommendations follow along.
Do I have to add a profile photo?
You'll be asked for one during setup. A real photo makes a noticeable difference to whether people accept bond requests from you. Campus communities run on recognizing faces.
I closed the app halfway through setup. Did I lose everything?
No. Everything you'd already saved is kept, and UUDO drops you back at the first step that's still incomplete when you reopen it.
Account & security
6How do I change my password?
Settings → Security → Change password. You'll be asked to confirm who you are first.
If you've forgotten your current password, use Forgot password on the login screen instead.
What is two-factor authentication, and should I turn it on?
Two-factor authentication adds a six-digit code from an authenticator app on top of your password. Even if someone learns your password, they can't get in without your phone.
We recommend it. Set it up in Settings → Security.
I lost my phone or authenticator app. How do I get back in?
Use one of the recovery codes you saved when you turned on two-factor authentication. Each code works once.
Can I add a second email address?
Yes. Add a personal address in Settings → Account. It's worth doing before you graduate, so you don't lose access when your university address is switched off.
Your university email stays the one that connects you to your campus.
What's the difference between deactivating and deleting my account?
- Deactivate: you disappear from UUDO and your profile stops being visible, but your account is kept so you can come back.
- Delete: your account is scheduled for deletion. You can still cancel it by logging back in within 7 days — after that it's permanent and can't be restored.
If you're just taking a break, deactivate.
How do I permanently delete my account?
Settings → Account → Delete account. You'll confirm your identity, and we'll ask you to confirm again.
What we keep afterwards, and for how long, is set out in the Privacy Policy.
Privacy & your data
5Who can see my profile?
Other verified students at your own university. UUDO isn't a public network. There's no profile of you on the open internet, and nothing here is indexed by search engines.
You can tighten what's shown in Settings → Privacy.
Can students from other universities see me?
No. Each university on UUDO is a separate community. Students at one campus can't see profiles, events, or messages from another.
What data does UUDO collect about me?
What you give us when you sign up and build your profile, plus what you do in the app: events you join, people you bond with, messages you send.
The complete list, what each thing is used for, how long it's kept, and your rights over it are in the Privacy Policy. That document is the authoritative one; this answer is a summary.
Does my university see what I do on UUDO?
Your university doesn't read your messages or see your private activity. Where a university has its own administrators on UUDO, what they can and cannot see is set out in the Institutional Privacy Notice.
How do I control my privacy and notification settings?
Everything lives under Settings → Privacy and Settings → Notifications: what's visible on your profile, who can reach you, and which notifications you receive.
Safety & community
4How do I block someone?
Open their profile, or the menu in a conversation, and choose Block. You don't need a reason, and they aren't told.
Everyone you've blocked is listed in Settings → Blocked users, and you can unblock from there.
What actually happens when I block someone?
Blocking cuts contact in both directions. They can't message you and you can't message them, and you drop out of each other's view in the app.
How do I report harassment or someone's behavior?
In the app: Settings → Support → Submit a ticket, and choose Report Harassment. Include names, dates and screenshots if you have them.
Someone is in immediate danger. What should I do?
Troubleshooting
5I never received my verification email
- Check spam and junk. University mail filters are aggressive.
- Confirm the address you typed is right.
- Request the email again from the verification screen.
Still nothing after a few minutes? Submit a ticket under Account Issue.
I can't log in
Check you're using your university email, not a personal one. If your password isn't working, use Forgot password. If you're stuck at the six-digit code step, see lost authenticator app.
UUDO put me at the wrong university
Your university comes from your email address, so this usually means you signed up with the wrong one, for example an address from a previous institution.
Something's broken. How do I report it?
Settings → Support → Submit a ticket, category Bug Report. Tell us what you did, what you expected, and what happened instead, and attach a screenshot.
Steps we can follow are the difference between a fast fix and a slow one.
Where can I see a ticket I already submitted?
Settings → Support → My tickets. Every ticket you've raised is there, with its status and any reply from our team.
Still need help?
Submit a ticket from inside the UUDO app. That way we can see your account, reply to you directly, and you can follow it under My tickets.
Settings → Support → Submit a ticket
